Why MTS Matters
Midcoast Trails Stewardship supports a growing network of local trails—and with your help we can expand our impact in 2026 and beyond.

Midcoast Trails Stewardship has been established to help support our local partners in providing a resource for fundraising, trail construction, trail maintenance, and trail stewardship education, while creating new opportunities for trails enthusiasts in our area. Our goal is to bring private donors, outdoor industry resources, local partners and highly motivated and experienced trail staff together to maintain and improve existing trail infrastructure, while supporting the missions and goals of our partner organizations.
Maine’s trails are a vital asset, offering recreational opportunities for physical health, socially connecting people to their community and nature, and contributing to the local economy. However, as the popularity of these trails grows, so does the need for proper trail stewardship. Many land trusts and municipalities are deeply committed to stewarding their lands, but often face resource and capacity limitations that make it challenging to maintain and expand their trail systems without additional support. This is where MTS steps in, offering expertise in trail management and building the capacity needed to steward these precious outdoor spaces.
